Language of czech „LoL“ community | Short story The Adventure on The Rift

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na analýzu mluvy české komunity hráčů počítačové hry League of Legends, přičemž reflektuje její jazyková specifika v širším kontextu současné nespisovné češtiny a digitální komunikace. V teoretické části je nejprve vymezen pojem sociolekt a jeho jednotlivé podtypy (slang, argot, profesní mluva aj.), přičemž důraz je kladen na jazykový projev v online prostředí. Dále je popsána samotná herní platforma League of Legends, její systém a komunikační kontext, v němž hráči interagují. Jádro práce tvoří sémantická analýza výrazů užívaných českými hráči, s důrazem na přejímky z angličtiny, jejich adaptaci, významové posuny a frekvenční užití. Výsledkem analýzy je tematicky strukturovaný slovník výrazů typických pro tuto komunitu. Uměleckou část tvoří autorská povídka Dobrodružství ve Žlebu, žánrově inspirovaná litRPG a stylizovaná jako narativní záznam herní situace. Povídka autenticky zachycuje komunikaci mezi hráči během hry a ilustruje praktické uplatnění analyzovaných jazykových jevů. Cílem této části je nejen demonstrovat funkčnost a výrazový potenciál herního jazyka, ale i zprostředkovat emocionální a sociální dimenzi hráčské zkušenosti.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis focuses on the analysis of the language used by the Czech community of League of Legends players, examining its linguistic features within the broader context of contemporary non-standard Czech and digital communication. The theoretical part first defines the concept of sociolects and its subtypes (slang, argot, professional jargon, etc.), with special attention paid to language used in online environments. It also introduces the League of Legends gaming platform, its system, and the communicative context in which players interact. The core of the work consists of semantic analysis of expressions commonly used by Czech players, with emphasis on English loanwords, their adaptation, semantic shifts, and frequency of use. The result of this analysis is a thematically structured glossary of expressions characteristic of this community. The artistic part consists of an original short story titled Adventure in the Rift, inspired by the litRPG genre and stylized as a narrative record of an in-game situation. The story authentically captures player communication during gameplay and illustrates the practical application of the analyzed linguistic phenomena. The aim of this section is not only to demonstrate the functionality and expressive potential of gaming language but also to convey the emotional and social dimensions of the player experience.
