Changes in the media representation of schizophrenia in MF Dnes

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá proměnami mediální reprezentace schizofrenie v českém deníku MF Dnes. Cílem je zjistit, zda se v kontextu probíhajících destigmatizačních kampaní proměňuje způsob, jímž o duševně nemocných píše periodikum, tedy jak se liší mediální reprezentace mezi články publikovanými v letech 2001-2003 a články z let 2016-2018. Zaměřuje se na posouzení významnosti, jež deník přisoudil tématu schizofrenie v jednotlivých obdobích a na proměny zpracovatelských postupů. Zvolenou analytickou metodou je kvantitativní obsahová analýza. Výsledky tohoto výzkumu naznačují, že mediální reprezentace schizofrenie se v jednotlivých obdobích opravdu liší, zároveň ale nelze hovořit o proměně mediální reprezentace v souladu s intencemi destigmatizačních kampaní.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the changes in the media representation of schizophrenia in the Czech daily MF Dnes. The goal is to find out whether, in the context of ongoing destigmatization campaigns, the way in which the periodicals are written about mentally ill people is changing, therefore, how the media representation of this topic differs between articles published in 2001-2003 and articles from 2016-2018. The thesis then focuses on assessing the salience that the journal attributed to the topic of schizophrenia in the individual periods and on the transformation of processing procedures. The analytical method chosen is a quantitative content analysis. The results of this research indicate that the media representations of schizophrenia do indeed differ from one period to another, but at the same time, it is not possible to talk about the transformation of media representation in accordance with the intentions of destigmatization campaigns.
