The study of psychrophilic bacteria growing on phenol

Abstract:

Práce se zabývala rozkladem fenolu za pomocí 6 bakteriálních kultur, získaných z různých vodních zdrojů ve zlínském kraji. Pokusy byly prováděny za snížené teploty (8 °C), jelikož zmíněný fenol místy kontaminuje podzemní vody, kde se často teplota pohybuje okolo nebo pod 10 °C. U uvedených bakteriálních kultur byly prováděny růstové testy při koncentracích fenolu 100 až 500 mg/l, a to s různou předinkubací (na R2A agaru či na fenolu). Dvě kultury byly schopny růstu při všech koncentracích fenolu, zbývající jen při koncentracích 300 - 350 mg/l. Na závěr, po provedení biochemických testů, byly kultury předběžně identifikovány jako zástupci bakteriálního rodu Acinetobacter.

Abstract:

The thesis dealt with the degradation of phenol by 6 bacterial strains obtained from various water sources in the Zlín region. The experiments were carried out at a low temperature (8 °C), as the phenol may in some cases contaminate groundwater, where the temperature is often around or below 10°C. The mentioned bacterial strains were subjected to growth tests at phenol concentrations of 100 to 500 mg/l, with different type of pre-incubation (on R2A agar or on phenol). Two strains were able to grow at all phenol concentrations, other strains only at concentrations of 300-350 mg/l. Finally, after performing biochemical tests, the strains were tentatively identified as members of bacterial genus Acinetobacter.
