The humanitarian intervention debate among the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the positions of the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council on humanitarian intervention. It verifies the argument that events after September 11, 2001 have caused a decline of popularity of humanitarian intervention among the UN Permanent Five. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on the humanitarian intervention concept and the practical problems connected to it. The second part focuses on particular positions of the P5 on the humanitarian interventions in Somalia, Rwanda, Kosovo and on the military interventions in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Abstract:

Táto práca sa zaoberá pozíciami stálych členov Bezpečnostnej rady Organizácie spojených národov voči humanitárnej intervencii. Overuje hypotézu, že udalosti po 11. septembri 2001 spôsobili úpadok popularity humanitárnej intervencie medzi stálou päťkou OSN. Teoretická časť práce sa zameriava na koncept humanitárnej intervencie a na praktické problémy s ňou spojené. Druhá časť sa zameriava na jednotlivé pozície P5 voči humanitárnym intervenciám v Somálsku, Rwande, Kosove a vojenským intervenciám v Afganistane a Iraku.
