Human gnaw marks on selected archeological locality: Comparison and experimentation

Abstract:

In archaeology, paleontology and anthropology, gnaw marks on bones have a potential to reveal the size of a taxa, which is responsible for it, it’s feeding behavior and prey preferences. Moreover, identification of human gnaw marks on human bones is an important evidence of cannibalism. This thesis is focused on documentation of gnaw marks caused by canids and their comparison to archeological material from the Smolenice-Molpír site, where the cannibalism was previously documented. Human gnaw marks on human bones were not identified, approximately 0,5 % of bones was modified with carnivore gnaw marks.

Abstract:

Stopy ohryzu na kostech mají v kontextu archeologie, paleontologie a antropologie potenciál informovat o velikosti druhu, který je způsobil, jeho stravovacích návycích a preferenci kořisti. Identifikace lidského ohryzu na lidských kostech je zase významným důkazem kanibalismu. Tato práce se soustředí na dokumentaci stop ohryzu psovitých šelem na kostech a jejich následním porovnáním s archeologickým materiálem z lokality Smolenice-Molpír, kde byl dokumentovaný kanibalismus. Stopy lidského ohryzu nebyly nalezeny na žádné lidské kosti, přibližně 0,5 % kostí neslo stopy po ohryzu masožravými šelmami.
