Content analysis of STEM learning tasks’ databases with a focus on geography, mathematics and modern technology

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá analýzou učebních úloh v rámci vzdělávacího konceptu STEM se zaměřením na geografii, matematiku a moderní technologie. Cílem práce je analýza databází a konkrétních učebních úloh. Analýza je přitom soustředěna na zastoupení jednotlivých předmětů a také na to, jak mohou tyto předměty přispět k začlenění oborů STEM do vzdělávacího procesu. K dosažení tohoto cíle jsou analyzovány tři databáze (STEM Learning, TeachEngineering a Science Buddies). V průběhu analýzy je identifikováno několik klíčových charakteristik, přičemž první z nich je interdisciplinární přístup, který spojuje různé vědní obory a umožňuje tak komplexnější pochopení daných témat. Dalším důležitým rysem je zastoupení moderních technologií. Ty hrají v úlohách významnou roli a přinášejí díky tomu do učebních úloh nové možnosti vizualizace, analýzy dat a především přinášejí praktické aplikace teoretických znalostí. Témata úloh často reflektují aktuální světové problémy, jako je změna klimatu, urbanizace či přírodní katastrofy. Na základě analýzy je navíc rozebráno zastoupení geografie, matematiky a moderních technologií. Jejich význam je závislý na konkrétních úlohách a databázích. Výsledky této práce naznačují, že učební úlohy v rámci konceptu STEM nabízejí bohaté možnosti pro rozvoj odborných znalostí a dovedností v oblastech geografie, matematiky a moderních technologií. Tento přístup může přispět k lepší přípravě studentů na výzvy současného světa a podpořit jejich zájem o STEM obory.

Abstract:

Bachelor's thesis is dealing with the analysis of educational tasks within the STEM educational concept focusing on geography, mathematics, and modern technologies. The aim of the thesis is to analyse how the individual subjects are represented in educational tasks and how they can contribute to the incorporation of STEM fields into the educational process. To achieve this goal, three databases (STEM Learning, TeachEngineering, and Science Buddies) are analysed. During the analysis, several key characteristics are identified. The first is the interdisciplinary approach, which combines various disciplines and enables a more comprehensive understanding of the topics at hand. Another important feature is the incorporation of modern technologies, which play a significant role in the tasks by introducing new possibilities for visualization, data analysis, and practical application of theoretical knowledge. The themes of the tasks often reflect current global issues such as climate change, urbanization, or natural disasters. Furthermore, the analysis reveals that the representation of geography, mathematics, and modern technologies varies depending on specific tasks and databases. The results of this work suggest that educational tasks within the STEM concept offer rich opportunities for developing specialized knowledge and skills in the areas of geography, mathematics, and modern technologies. This approach can contribute to better preparing students for the challenges of the contemporary world and support their interest in STEM fields.
