Reference to kinds, genericity and mass nouns: experimental study

Anotácia:

Cieľom predstavenej diplomovej práce je preskúmať referenciu k druhom v slovečine a jej vzťah k denotácii mennej frázy a k denotácii predikátu. Po teoretickej časti je práca založená na rámci referencie k druhom navrhnutom Carlsonom (1977), ktorý bol následne rozšírený Chierchiom (1998) a Dayal (2004). Teoretické ukotvenie referencie k druhom práca nachádza v prístupoch Bunta (1985) a Pelletiera (1975). Experimentálna zložka práce sa opiera o analýzu Grimma a Dočekala (2021), ktorá bola zhotovená na češtine.

Abstract:

The aim of the presented thesis is to investigate sorting in the Slovak language and its connection to the denotation of the NP and the denotation of the predicate. The thesis is grounded in the theoretical framework of kinds proposed by Carlson (1977), extended by Chierchia (1998) and Dayal (2004). As for the theoretical background of sorting, the thesis is based on the approaches of Bunt (1985) and Pelletier (1975). The experimental part of the presented thesis is rooted in the investigation of Czech by Grimm and Dočekal (2021).
