Intimacy and commitment in romantic relationships in young adulthood

Abstract:

Cílem studie bylo zmapovat možnosti predikce intimity a závazku v partnerských vztazích v mladé dospělosti prostřednictvím citových vazeb napříč různými vztahy (matka, otec, partner) a čtyř dimenzí Big five (neuroticismus, extraverze, svědomitost a přívětivost). Jako doplňující nezávislé proměnné byly do výzkumu zahrnuty také pohlaví a pocit ne/dospělosti . Výzkumný soubor tvořili mladí dospělí od 25 do 30 let, kteří se do výzkumu přihlásili na základě inzerátu. Intimita a závazek byly měřeny Sternbergovou triangulární škálou lásky, citové vazby k různým vazbovým osobám dotazníkem RSQ (Relationships Structures Questionnaire) a dimenze Big five pomocí metody Neo pětifaktorový osobnostní inventář. Mnohonásobnou lineární regresí bylo zjištěno, že významným prediktorem intimity i závazku v partnerských vztazích v mladé dospělosti je vyhýbání se ve vztahu k partnerovi. Signifikantním prediktorem intimity je také úzkost ve vztahu k partnerovi, významným prediktorem závazku pak svědomitost. Vliv pohlaví a ne/dospělosti se neprokázal ani u jedné ze zkoumaných proměnných. Díky dodatečným zjištěním byl ale zjištěn významný vliv vyhýbání se ve vztahu k partnerovi také u třetí z komponent lásky podle Sternbergovy škály, kterou je vášeň. Na základě toho lze říci, že vyhýbání se má vliv na lásku (v její triangulární podobě) celkově.

Abstract:

The aim of this study was to explore possibility of prediction intimacy and commitment in romantic relationships in young adulthood by attachments with diffrent attachment figures (mother, father, romantic partner) and fouf dimensions of Big five (neuroticism, extraversion, conscientiousness and agreeableness). As supplementary independent variables also the gender and feeling of non/adulthood were included into the research. Research sample was assembled from young adults from 25 to 30 years, found by advertisement. The intimacy and the commitment were measured by Sternberg’s triangular love scale, attachments with diffrent attachment figures by RSQ (Relationships Structures Questionnaire) and the Big Five’s dimensions by NEO-FFI (Neo Five-factor Inventory). By using multiple linear regression it was found out that avoidance with partner is a significant predictor of the intimacy and the commitment in romantic relationships in young adulthood. Also anxiety with partner is a significant predictor, but only for intimacy. For commitment, on the other hand, a significant predictor is consciousness. However, there was no evidence that a gender and a feeling of non/adulthood had any influence on intimacy, nor commitment. Because of additional findings, it was found out that also a passion – the third component from Sternberg’s scale can be predicted by avoidance with parnter – the third component from Sternberg’s scale can be predicted by avoidance with parnter. According to that, it is possible to say that avoidance influences love (in Stenberg’s view) overall.
