Chronotop in the mentality of the Greeks of the 8th century BCE

Abstract:

Anotace Předložená disertační práce je věnována fenoménu propojení prostorových a časových parametrů v myslích Řeků 8. století př. n. l., které se vyjadřuje termínem chronotop. Klade si za cíl odhalit specifika řecké kultury daného období, a to prostřednictvím zkoumání různých oblastí lidského vnímání světa v rámci jejich představ o skutečném, profánním, a imaginárním, mytickém, prostoru i čase. Práce se zaměřuje na literární prameny, které obsahují myšlenky, postoje a imperativy přítomné v mentalitě Řeků dané doby, a opírá se také o ikonografii a archeologické prameny.

Abstract:

Abstract This doctoral thesis examines the interconnection between spatial and temporal parameters in 8th century BCE Greek thought, as revealed in the concept of the chronotope. The research aims to define the specifics of Greek culture in this period by considering various fields of people’s perception of the world in terms of their representations of real, profane and imaginary, mythical space and time. The research focuses on the investigation of literary sources containing ideas, attitudes, and imperatives present in the mentality of the Greeks of the period, with reference to iconography and archaeological sources.
