Manga - Japanese comics position between high and low art
Abstract:
Práce zkoumá historii a původ mangy a její cestu od karikaturních obrázků k celosvětově známému fenoménu. Dále mapuje rozdělení žánrů, rozšíření do světa, především USA, a porovnává rozdíly mezi Japonským a Západním komiksem. Na zá-kladě studia publikací o vysokém a nízkém umění se pokouší o určení pozice mangy mezi vysokým a nízkým uměním.
Abstract:
The essay explores the history and origin of manga and its way from cartoon images to the worldwide known phenomenon. It surveys a division of genres, it´s expansion to the world, especially the USA, and compares the differences between Japanese and Western comics. Based on studies of high and low art publications, it attempts to determine the position of manga between high and low art.
