Contemporary Diplomacy in the Context of the War in Ukraine

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na význam a funkci současné diplomacie v kontextu války na Ukrajině. Reflektuje a analyzuje příčiny rusko-ukrajinského konfliktu s ohledem na jeho současný vývoj a snaží se zodpovědět otázku týkající se selhání diplomacie mezi Východem a Západem po konci studené války. Práce zkoumá a hodnotí, do jaké míry je válka na Ukrajině reálným důsledkem absence diplomatické komunikace a vůle pro mír, a do jaké míry je výsledkem strategie. Definuje konkrétní jevy, které ovlivňují mezinárodní bezpečnostní vztahy, a posuzuje míru hrozby, kterou současná situace představuje a na kterou diplomacie reaguje změnou své povahy.

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on the meaning and function of contemporary diplomacy in the context of the war in Ukraine. It reflects and analyses the causes of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict in the light of its current developments and tries to answer the question concerning the failure of diplomacy between East and West after the end of the Cold War. The thesis examines and assesses to what extent the war in Ukraine is a real consequence of the absence of diplomatic communication and will for peace, and to what extent it is the result of strategy. It defines the specific phenomena affecting international security relations and assesses the degree of threat posed by the current situation, to which diplomacy is responding by changing its nature.
