Czech feature film debut and problems of its realization

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá zhodnocením úskalí českých celovečerních debutantských snímků. První část se věnuje postupům filmové tvorby od vývoje scénáře přes financování, filmovou výrobu až po postprodukci, distribuci a marketing. Všechny tyto procesy pak budou v první polovině práce stručně popsány. Druhá, praktická část práce, se zaobírá analýzou rozhovorů s debutujícími tvůrci, kteří odpovídali na otázky ohledně procesu filmové tvorby a hodnotili je z pohledu vlastních, debutantských zkušeností. K této části je také přidružena kapitola o sebereflexi tvůrců, kteří po dokončení díla s odstupem hodnotí klady a zápory výroby svého prvního snímku. Z analýzy vyplynulo, že největším úskalím celovečerních debutů je nezkušenost tvůrců, nedostatek finančních prostředků a odmítání spolupráce od renomovaných tvůrců. Tyto klíčové poznatky jsou podrobně popsány a shrnuty v závěru.

Abstract:

This thesis evaluates problems of Czech feature debut films. The first part focuses on the overview of the filmmaking process, from the development of screenplay to financing, filming, post-production, distribution, and marketing. All these processes are briefly described. The second part deals with my analysis of interviews with debut filmmakers who evaluated all parts of a filmmaking process from the perspective of their own debutant‘s experiences. Part of this thesis is also a chapter about self-reflection of filmmakers who assessed the pluses and minuses of their debuts. The analysis showed that the biggest problems of debut feature films are the inexperience of filmmakers, the lack of financial sources and the refusal of cooperation by respected moviemakers. These key findings are described in detail in the conclusion.
