Transformation of the Moravian folklore ornament in the applied arts and architecture in the Art Nouveau period

Abstract:

Diplomová práce si klade za úkol srovnat vývoj ornamentu v užitém umění a architektuře na území Moravy v kontextu lokálních folklorních tradic. Řeší otázku, do jaké míry se na přelomu 19. a 20. století česky hovořící umělci inspirovali moravským lidovým uměním a ornamentem, a zda-li převzaté folklorní motivy ornamentální výzdoby dále transformovali. Cíl práce je také sledován na pozadí evropského kulturního vývoje od poloviny devatenáctého století a doby historizujících tendencí v architektuře a užitém umění až k secesního stylu. Srovnání je vedeno i z hlediska dobových českých a cizojazyčných učebnic kresby ornamentu, ve kterých je řešena i otázka uplatnění lidových ornamentů v uměleckém řemesle.

Abstract:

This thesis aims to compare the progress of the ornament in applied arts and architecture at the Moravia in the context of local folk traditions. It solves the question of to what extent Czech-speaking artists have inspired by Moravian folk art and ornament in the turn of 19th and 20th century, and if the taken folklore motifs of ornamental decorations further transformed. Main aim is also observed on the background of the European cultural development since the mid-nineteenth century and the time of historicist tendencies in architecture and applied arts until period of the Art Nouveau style. The comparison is conducted also in terms of Czech and foreign language textbooks of ornament drawings, in which the issue of use folk ornaments in the art and craft is resolved.
