Constructing the Discourses on the Energy Community in Georgia in the Context of Europeanization

The research paper explores the political discourses on the Energy Community in Georgia in the context of Europeanization. The discourse analysis was conducted by using the approach of Thomaz Diez on the ‘discursive nodal points’. Three main discourses regarding the Energy Community have been reconstructed in the research. The opportunity discourse views the Energy Community as a mean to liberalize the energy market. While, the membership to the Community is considered as a rational choice according to the rationalism discourse, which aims to improve the energy security in Georgia. Meanwhile, the optimism discourse perceives the accession to the Energy Community Treaty as one step closer to the EU integration. The paper demonstrates that even though the presented discourses have different dimensions and create various images of the Energy Community, they are still evidently interconnected with each other through the idea of Europeanization of Georgian energy sector with the incorporation of European norms and rules into the domestic level.
