Genomic analysis of bacteriocin-producing Gammaproteobacteria and characterization of novel bacteriocins

Abstract:

Bakteriociny jsou antimikrobiální látky proteinové povahy, jež jsou zvažovány jako alternativa k dnes používaným antibiotikům, například při léčbě infekcí způsobených multirezistentními patogeny. Přestože se předpokládá, že jsou bakteriociny produkovány různými bakteriemi, naše znalosti se z velké části týkají prominentních laboratorních druhů. V předkládané práci jsme zkoumali antagonistické interakce environmentálních kmenů pseudomonád a enterobakterií; detekované bakteriociny jsme charakterizovali na molekulární úrovní a stanovili jejich inhibiční potenciál vůči klinickým patogenům.

Abstract:

Bacteriocins are highly specific proteinaceous toxins considered as novel strain-specific therapeutic agents targeting regular as well as multiresistant pathogens. However, while abundance of bacteriocins among bacteria is remarkable, our knowledge is mostly limited to the prominent laboratory species. In this study, we screened antagonistic interactions among non-laboratory pseudomonads and enterobacteria, we characterised detected bacteriocins and determined their inhibitory activity towards clinically relevant pathogens.
