Mineralogy of the Dolní Rožínka elbaite-subtype pegmatite

Abstract:

Granitický pegmatit elbaitového subtypu v Dolní Rožínce patří mezi silně frakcionovaná tělesa s výraznou evolucí chemického složení turmalínu, berylu, granátu, slíd, oxidů Nb, Ta a Sn, a dalších akcesorických minerálů. Chemické složení minerálů bylo analyzováno pomocí elektronové mikrosondy a identifikace některých fází byla provedena s pomocí Ramanova spektrometru. Pegmatit je zonální a směrem od okraje ke středu je rozdělen na grafickou jednotku s biotitem (a grafickými srůsty křemene s turmalínem nebo granátem), grafická jednotka s berylem, albitová jednotka, bloková jednotka a dutiny. Detailně byl studován především chemismus osmi texturních typů turmalínu, pěti typů primárního berylu, tří typů granátu, a čtyř typů slíd. Primární turmalín se vyvíjí od Mg-bohatého, mírně Al-deficitního skorylu, přes Li-bohatý skoryl, do Mn-bohatého elbaitu, v dutinách pak se zvýšenými obsahy Ca a F. Bórem bohatá fluida umožnila vznik žilek metasomatického turmalínu obohaceného F, Ca, Mn a Mg (skoryl, fluor-skoryl, fluor-elbait, elbait) a sekundárních metasomatických turmalínů; turmalín po biotitu je bohatý Mg a silně Al-deficitní, turmalín po plagioklasu odpovídá elbaitu až liddicoatitu. Primární beryl je částečně obohacený Na a Mg, směrem do středu žíly pak i Cs; sekundární beryl je silně obohacený o Cs a Na (pezzottait). Obsahy Mn v granátu rostou směrem do středu žíly. Ze slíd se objevuje především biotit, méně pak polylithionit (v dutinách) a sekundární muskovit. Běžný je fluorapatit se zvýšeným Mn a sekundární bertrandit. Mezi vzácnější akcesorické minerály patří minerály ze skupin columbitu, pyrochlóru, dále kasiterit, zirkon, pollucit a Cs-bohatý polylithionit až sokolovait. Chemický vývoj minerálů pegmatitu z Dolní Rožínky je v mnoha aspektech podobný vývoji v pegmatitech elbaitového subtypu z Pikárce a Řečice, od pegmatitu v Řečici se ale výrazně liší texturním vývojem.

Abstract:

The elbaite-subtype granitic pegmatite at Dolní Rožínka, Czech Republic, belongs to highly fractionated bodies with distinct evolution of chemical composition of tourmaline, beryl, garnet, mica, oxides of Nb, Ta and Sn, and other accessory minerals. Chemical composition of minerals was analyzed using an electron microprobe and the identification of some phases was done using a Raman spectrometer. The pegmatite dike is zoned and from the border to the center can be divided into a graphic unit with biotite (and graphic intergrowths of quartz with tourmaline or garnet), a graphic unit with beryl, an albite unit, a blocky unit, and pockets. Compositional evolution of eight textural types of tourmaline, five types of primary beryl, three types of garnet, and four types of mica was studied in detail. Primary tourmaline develops from Mg-rich, slightly Al-deficient schorl, through Li-rich schorl, to Mn-rich elbaite, in pockets with increased Ca and F contents. Boron-rich fluid allowed formation of metasomatic vein tourmaline enriched in F, Ca, Mn and Mg (schorl, fluor-schorl, fluor-elbaite, elbaite) and secondary metasomatic tourmalines; tourmaline after biotite is rich in Mg and strongly Al-deficient, tourmaline after plagioclase corresponds to elbaite to liddicoatite. Primary beryl is partially enriched in Na and Mg, towards the center of the vein also by Cs; secondary beryl is strongly enriched in Cs and Na (pezzottaite). The Mn contents of the garnet increase towards the center of the dike. From micas, biotite is most common; polylithionite (in pockets) and secondary muscovite are rarer. Fluorapatite with increased Mn and secondary bertrandite are common. Rare accessory minerals include minerals from the columbite and pyrochlore groups, cassiterite, zircon, pollucite and Cs-rich polylithionite to sokolovaite. Compositional evolution of minerals in the pegmatite from Dolní Rožínka is in many aspects similar to the evolution in pegmatites of the elbaite subtype from Pikárec and Řečice but it differs significantly from the Řečice pegmatite by its textural development.
