Recently, monoxenous trypanosomatids have become more frequently studied due to their importance in evolution of medically significant dixenous trypanosomatids. V poslední době se jednohostitelské trypanosomatidy staly častěji studovanými díky jejich významu v evoluci signifikantních dvouhostitelských trypanosomatid. Ze všech jednohostitelských druhů je to právě Leptomonas seymouri, jenž upoutává vědeckou pozornost, zejména díky své schopnosti, jakožto hmyzího parazita, odolávat zvýšeným teplotám, dokonce i teplotám lidského těla (Kraeva et al., 2015).
