Gender equality in gastronomy

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se soustředí na problematiku genderové (ne)rovnosti v oboru gastronomie. Jejím cílem bylo zodpovědět hlavní výzkumnou otázku: Jak lidé, kteří působí v gastronomii, nahlížejí na rovnost a zastoupení žen a mužů v oboru? Za účelem naplnění cíle byl zvolen kvantitativní výzkum – dotazníkové šetření – se statistickým vyhodnocením dat. Podoba dotazníkového šetření byla sestavena s ohledem na informace prezentované v teoretické části práce, přičemž zájem byl zaměřen na to, jak dotazovaní/é nahlížejí na zastoupení žen a mužů v gastronomii, jaké jsou příčiny možných nerovností a také jak by daný stav bylo možné řešit. V potaz při vyhodnocení bylo vzato také pohlaví respondentů/ek. S ohledem na výsledky lze zkonstatovat, že výsledky, tedy vnímání genderové rovnosti v gastronomii ze strany dotazovaných, odpovídá tezím prezentovaným v teoretické části práce. Gastronomii ti, kdo v ní pracují, vnímají jako obor s nerovným zastoupením a také finančním ohodnocením žen a mužů, přičemž specificky ženy si jsou vědomy řady souvisejících stereotypů (kdežto muži jim spíše podléhají). Za klíčovou příčinu vertikální i horizontální segregace v gastronomii pak dotazovaní považují povinnosti, jež jsou přičítány ženám, tj. mateřství a péče o rodinu. I proto tedy vzorek považuje za možné kroky k řešení neuspokojivého stavu nejen odstranění představ společnosti o „ženské“ a „mužské“ práci, ale také kladení vyššího důrazu na slaďování osobního a pracovního života.

Abstract:

The bachelor's thesis focuses on the issue of gender (ine)equality in the field of gastronomy. Its aim was to answer the main research question: How do people who work in gastronomy view equality and the representation of women and men in the field? In order to fulfill the goal, a quantitative research was chosen - a questionnaire survey - with a statistical evaluation of the data. The form of the questionnaire survey was compiled with regard to the information presented in the theoretical part of the thesis, while the interest was focused on how the interviewees view the representation of women and men in gastronomy, what are the causes of possible inequalities and also how the given situation could be solved. The gender of the respondents was also taken into account during the evaluation. With regard to the results, it can be concluded that the results, i.e. the perception of gender equality in gastronomy by the interviewees, correspond to the theses presented in the theoretical part of the thesis. Those who work in it perceive gastronomy as a field with unequal representation and also financial evaluation of women and men, while specifically women are aware of a number of related stereotypes (whereas men are more likely to be subject to them). The key cause of vertical and horizontal segregation in gastronomy is then considered by the interviewees to be the duties attributed to women, i.e. motherhood and family care. For this reason, the sample considers not only the removal of society's ideas about „fiale“ and „male“ work, but also placing greater emphasis on the reconciliation of personal and work life as possible steps to solve the unsatisfactory situation.
