The life story of a descendant of an American soldier in Taiwan

Anotácia:

Táto práca se venuje americkej vojenskej prítomnosti na Taiwane počas 60. a začiatku 70. rokov 20. storočia z pohľadu americkej mládeže, ktorá na Taiwane vyrastala. Cieľom práce je zistiť, aké možnosti trávenia voľného času mali americké deti a teenageri na Taiwane. Oblasti, ktoré práca skúma, sú okrem iného aj bývanie, klimatické podmienky, ale aj školské a mimoškolské prostredie, napr. športy, knihy, filmy či skautový oddiel. Práca kombinuje sekundárnu literatúru a orálno-historický výskum s pamätníkom, ktorý na Taiwane počas tohto obdobia žil.

Abstract:

This thesis examines the U.S. military presence in Taiwan during the 1960s and early 1970s from the perspective of American youth who grew up in Taiwan. The purpose of the thesis is to explore what type of leisure opportunities American children and teenagers had in Taiwan. Areas of interest that the thesis covers include housing, climate conditions, as well as school and extracurricular activities, such as sports, books, movies, and scout troops. The thesis combines secondary literature and oral history research with a memoirist who lived in Taiwan during that time.
