Empirical Determiniants of Quality of Life: now and before

Abstract:

Tato práce se zaobírá determinantami, které ovlivňují kvalitu života starších lidí. Klade si za cíl, pomocí zvolených periodik, zjistit, zda se determinanty kvality života seniorů nějakým způsobem změnily v čase. První část práce je zaměřena na teoretické vymezení konceptů stáří a kvality života. Následuje praktická část, dělící se na metodologii a analýzu. V metodologické části jsou shrnuty dva, v této práci použité metodologické přístupy a to obsahová analýza a kvalitativní analýza. Dále jsou zde představeny zkoumané vzorky studií dvou akademických časopisů Journal of Gerontology a Ageing and Society a také zformulovaná výzkumná otázka. V analytické části jsou poté podrobněji shrnuty výsledky příslušných studií. Následující diskuze se poté opírá o četnosti zanalyzované obsahovou analýzou a také informace zjištěné při kvalitativní analýze. V ní ukazuje, že nejčastěji zastoupenou kategorií zkoumanou v těchto studiích je determinanta zdraví a okolní prostředí, avšak kvalitativně zjištěnou determinantou, která nejsilněji ovlivňovala i ovlivňuje kvalitu života stáří, jsou mezilidské vztahy.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with determinants that affect quality of life of older people. The goal of this thesis is to find out if these determinants have changed during time using two different periodics. First part of this thesis is focused on a theoretical definition of concepts of an old age and a quality of life. Then a practical part follows which consists of a methodology and an analysis. The methodology consists of two approaches used in this thesis – a subject analysis and a qualitative analysis. Next, the samples of articles published in Journal of Gerontology and Ageing and Society are presented and research question is formulated here as well. In the analysis part there is a summary of studies results. The discussion part then mentions numbers and discoveries of a subject analysis and an information discovered by qualitative analysis. It is shown that the most often researched category of determinants of QoL is health and a surrounding environment but the determinant which has the biggest influence on QoL is relationships with people according to the qualitative analysis.
