Trends on the civil aircraft market: Boeing vs Airbus

Abstract:

Trh výrobců civilních letadel je jedním z nejvíce konkurenčních trhů na světě. Na trhu existují pouze dvě nejsilnější firmy Boeing a Airbus, které každoročně soupeří o první příčku v počtu objednaných a dodaných letadel. Cílem této diplomové práce je zjistit, zda existuje možnost, aby byla síla duopolu Boeing-Airbus oslabena. Vyhodnocení probíhalo pomocí analýzy současné situace na trhu s dopravními letadly a hodnocení současných trendů v letecké dopravě. Práce nejprve zkoumá teorii duopolu, dále novou konkurenci z Číny a Ruska a problém Boeingu B737 MAX, který byl kvůli technické chybě celosvětově uzemněn. Výsledek práce ukazuje, že pozice Boeingu a Airbusu na trhu leteckých výrobců je za současného stavu trhu neohrozitelná a jen čas ukáže, jak se trh nadále bude vyvíjet.

Abstract:

The civil aircraft manufacturing is one of the most competitive markets in the world. Only Boeing and Airbus can compete every year who gets the highest number of orders and deliveries. The goal of this thesis is to determine whether there is a possibility that the strength of the duopoly Boeing-Airbus can weaken. The evaluation was carried out by analyzing the current situation on the aircraft market and assesing current trends in air transport. The thesis examines the theory of duopoly, then new competition from China and Russia, and mainly the problem of Boeing B737 MAX, which has been grounded worldwide due to a technical fault. The result shows that the position of Boeing and Airbus among airplane manufacturers will for now remain unchanged and only time will show how the market will continue to develop.
