Analysis of cognitive functions of the aging population

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je zaměřena na analýzu kognitivních schopností stárnoucí populace. V rámci práce byla provedena popisná analýza dat, která zahrnuje informace o kognitivních funkcích a informace o individuálních výsledcích respondentů, kteří se zúčastnili šetření SHARE (Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe). Cílem práce je zkoumat tři vybrané faktory, které mohou mít vliv na kognitivní funkce (věk, pohlaví a délka vzdělání). Práce je rozdělena do tří kapitol. První́ kapitola je zaměřena na informace o výběrovém šetření SHARE a jeho procesu sestavování. Druhá kapitola obsahuje popisnou analýzu dat v časovém směru a popis každou zkoumanou proměnnou zvlášť. Ve třetí́ kapitole jsou popsány modely panelových dat a je proveden pokus vyhledání nejlepšího modelu pro každou proměnnou popisující kognitivní schopnosti. Popisná statistika panelových dat a sestaveni modelů predikce umožnují komplexní prozkoumání datového souboru a vyjádření silnějších závislostí mezi kognitivními funkcemi a individuálními charakteristikami respondentů.

Abstract:

The thesis is focused on the analysis of the cognitive abilities of the aging population. The research method consisted of descriptive data analysis based on the information available regarding the cognitive functions of individuals. It was based on the following research Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE and included analyzing of the individual based cases. The main objective of the work is to investigate three factors that can affect cognitive functions (age, gender, and length of education). The thesis is divided into three chapters, where the first chapter presents information about the SHARE sample survey and its process. The second chapter contains a descriptive analysis of data in the time direction and a description of each variable which, examined separately. In the third chapter, panel data models are described and an attempt is made to find the best model for each variable describing cognitive abilities. The descriptive approach has many benefits. Most importantly, it allows creating panel models which open diversified angle for data analysis and observation of the strong connection between cognitive functions and individual characteristics of correspondents participating in the survey.
