Child care of selected cultural minorities from the viewpoint of pediatric nurses

Abstract:

Cíl: Cílem práce bylo zjistit a popsat, jaké zkušenosti mají dětské sestry v péči o dětského pacienta z vybraných kulturních menšin. Dalšími cíli bylo zjistit a popsat, jak dětské sestry vnímají péči o tyto dětské pacienty, jaká je komunikace s těmito pacienty a jejich rodinami a jaké mají dětské sestry znalosti ohledně specifik dané kulturní menšiny. Metodika: Data byla získána a zpracována pomocí kvalitativního výzkumu. Pro sběr dat pak byl zvolen polostrukturovaný rozhovor, kterého se zúčastnilo 10 dětských sester. Po zpracování, zaznamenání a transkripci získaných dat, byla pro výzkum důležitá data kategorizována a rozdělena pro další zpracování. Poté byla data zpracována v empirické části práce podle jevů vycházejících z výzkumu. Výsledky: S pomocí výzkumného šetření bylo zjištěno, že dětské sestry subjektivně vnímají zhoršenou spolupráci s dětmi romskými a muslimskými a jejich rodinami. S dětmi z těchto menšin projevily dětské sestry negativní zkušenosti. Samy ale uvedly, že vždy záleží na dané rodině pacienta. Stejně tak nejvíce problematická byla i komunikace s těmito menšinami, ke kterým je třeba přidat i rodiny z menšiny vietnamské, kde byla především výrazná komunikační bariéra. I přes tyto zjištěná fakta, dětské sestry subjektivně nevnímají péči o dětské pacienty z těchto kulturních menšin jako náročnou. V oblasti znalostí byly výsledky značně individuální, sestry byly dotazovány na znalosti specifik daných menšin. Většinou dětské sestry uvedly pouze jedno specifikum k dotazované oblasti. Závěr: V závěru lze uvést fakt, že dětské sestry projevily zájem o další alespoň minimální vzdělání v této oblasti v podobě stručné brožury. Tento materiál by dětské sestry měly jako pomůcku na svém pracovišti pro usnadnění ošetřovatelské péče a uspokojování potřeb dětí z kulturních menšin a jejich rodin.

Abstract:

Purpose: The main goal of the thesis was finding out and describing the experiences of nurses in chilren´s medical care in some of the cultural minorities. As a part of the thesis was also finding out how nurses percieve state of health care of these patients and also detecting the quality of communication with them and their families. Besides, the thesis also tried to investigate if nurses have some knowledge about some specifics of given cultural minority. Purpose: The main goal of the thesis was finding out and describing the experiences of nurses in chilren´s medical care in some of the cultural minorities. As a part of the thesis was also finding out how nurses percieve state of health care of these patients and also detecting the quality of communication with them and their families. Mostly, nurses reported only one specificity to the interviewed area. Results: According to research it was investigated nurses subjectively percieve the cooperation with Gypsy and Muslim patient´s families as aggravated. Futhermore, nurses who worked with patients of these ethnics demonstrated some negative cooperation with the children. They also mentioned that it differs according to behavior manners of the exact family. Next, the most problematic was communication with these ethnics as same as with Vietnamese minorities. Despite these facts, nurses do not consider health care of children´s patients of these cultural minorities as demanding or too overwhelming. There was a lot differences in the level of nurses´ knowledge about these minorities´ specifics, but they tended to have some fundamental information about them. Conclusion: As a conclusion of the thesis it can be assumed nurses showed some interest of educating themselves by providing brief brochure to them. This material could be used by nurses as a tool to facilitate the nursing care and to gratify the needs both of children and their families who belong to the exact minority.
