Peníze jsou důležitou mocenskou složkou států. Rusko však i přes svou mezinárodní důležitost tuto moc zpočátku téměř zcela postrádalo. Začátkem nového milénia se postupně podařilo rubl vnitrostátně etablovat a posílit jeho mezinárodní pozici.
