Siblings in the Human Individual Development

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce bylo zjistit, zda pořadí porodu a meziporodní intervaly souvisí s rozdíly v porodní hmotnosti a délce mezi sourozenci. Tyto vztahy byly testovány na anonymním datech získaných z porodopisů Fakultní nemocnice Olomouc. Bylo zjištěno, že prvorozené děti tohoto souboru se obecně rodily s nižší porodní hmotností a menší délkou než ostatní děti, přičemž porodní hmotnost mezi druhorozeným a třetirozeným sourozencem se téměř nelišila. Vliv pořadí byl natolik výrazný, že i druhorozené sestry měly v průměru vyšší porodní hmotnost než jejich starší bratři, přičemž chlapci se v průměru rodí s vyšší porodní hmotností i délkou než dívky. Dalším zajímavým zjištěním bylo, že druhorození chlapci se starší sestrou měli průměrně vyšší porodní hmotnost a délku než chlapci se starším bratrem, přičemž u těchto sourozenců (starší bratr – mladší bratr) se porodní hmotnost a porodní délka, lišily ze všech srovnávaných dvojic nejméně. Lze tedy předpokládat, že právě přítomnost staršího bratra je pro mladšího bratra okolností omezující jeho prenatální růst. Tento jev lze dát do souvislosti s Mateřskou imunizační hypotézou.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis was to investigate whether birth order and birth spacing are related to differences in birth weight and length between siblings. These relationships were tested on anonymous data obtained from the obstetric records of the University Hospital in Olomouc. It was found that the first-born children of this cohort were generally born with lower birth weight and shorter length than the other children, while birth weight and length between second and third-born siblings hardly differed. The order effect was so pronounced that even second-born siblings had, on average, higher birth weight than their older brothers, with boys being born with higher birth weight and length than girls. Another interesting finding was that second-born boys with an older sister had, on average, higher birth weight and length than boys with an older brother, with these siblings (older brother – younger brother) having the least difference in birth weight and length of all the pair types compared. Thus, it can be assumed that the presence of an older brother is the circumstance limiting prenatal growth for the younger brother. This phenomenon can be related to the Maternal Immune Hypothesis.
