Parkour in Limits of Materiality

Abstract:

Parkour je pohybová aktivita provozovaná nejčastěji v městském prostředí (lidé věnující se parkouru se nazývají traceuři). Diplomová práce se zabývá vztahem parkouru a materiality z pozice přístupu zvaného teorie aktérských sítí (Latour 2005). Tento přístup chápe svět jako efekt a výsledek vztahů a asociací různých aktérů. Materialita je tedy chápána jako traceurům (lidem) rovnocenný aktér. Z této pozice se vyjevuje několik dílčích témat. Parkour jako takový představuje efekt vztahů několika aktérů, kteří se vzájemně ovlivňují, a jeho podoba je chápána jako dosažená jejich asociacemi. Je vyjednáván způsob, jakým se traceuři pohybují prostorem, jaké pohyby používají a kde trénují. Dalším tématem je parkourový habitus (Bourdieu 1998), který vstupuje do sítě aktérů. Habitus představuje schopnost traceurů specifickým způsobem využívat prostor a pohybovat se v něm. S parkourovým habitem souvisí (vychází z něj) parkour vision (Angel 2011), neboli specifický pohled na prostor (a materialitu), díky němuž traceuři vidí v prostoru překážky a příležitosti k tréninku. Zároveň skrze parkour vision rozlišují jemné detaily materiality jako jsou vzdálenosti, výšky nebo povrchy a jejich kvalita (tvrdost, kluzkost). Parkourový habitus je zpětně formován materialitou prostorovými možnostmi traceurů. Posledním tématem je nebezpečí, které pramení ze zacházení traceurů s prostorem nebezpečí je efektem sítě aktérů. Na nebezpečí a jeho překonávání se navíc váže určitá prestiž a uznání od ostatních traceurů (Kidder 2013).

Abstract:

Parkour is a physical activity most often practised in the urban environment (people practising parkour are called traceurs). The diploma thesis deals with the relationship of parkour and materiality by the approach of the actor-network theory (Latour 2005). This approach understands the world as the effect of relationships and associations of different actors. Materiality is therefore understood as a equal actor as traceurs (people). Several subtopics appear from this theory. Parkour is understood as the effect of the relationships of several actors who interact with each other. Form of parkour is understood as achieved by actors associations. The way in which traceurs move through space, what moves they use, and where they train is negotiated. Another subtopic is the parkour habitus (Bourdieu 1998), that enters the network of actors. Habitus is the ability of traceurs to use space in a specific way and to move within it. Parkour habitus is related to parkour vision (that is based on habitus) (Angel 2011), that is a specific view of space (and materiality), that grand traceurs ability to see obstacles and opportunities for movement. At the same time, through the parkour vision, fine details of materiality, such as distances, heights or surfaces and their quality (hardness, slipperiness), are distinguished. The parkour habitus (and vision) is additionaly shaped by materiality by spatial possibilities, that traceurs have. The last topic is the danger that stems from traceurs´ use of space - the danger is the effect of the network of actors. In addition, certain prestige stem from overcoming danger (Kidder 2013).
