Disinformation on social media and its influence on voters' decisions

Abstract:

Jaké faktory determinují schopnost v rozpoznávání zjevně nepravdivých titulků? V dnešní době se často setkáváme s fenoménem fake news a dezinformací. Tyto jevy mohou mít negativní vliv na společnost, veřejnou diskusi a dokonce i na výsledky voleb. Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na problematiku fake news a dezinformací, a to zejména v kontextu sociálních sítí, které jsou jedním z hlavních prostředků šíření těchto jevů. Hlavním cílem je zjistit, jaké faktory determinují schopnost rozpoznat falešné zprávy. Teoretická část práce se zaměřuje na definici základních pojmů, jako je informace, fake news nebo sociální síť. Věnuje se také problematice víry ve falešné zprávy, například z hlediska kognitivních schopností nebo stranické zaujatosti. V rámci empirického výzkumu bylo provedeno dotazníkové šetření, kterého se zúčastnilo 510 respondentů z náhodného vzorku. Získaná data byla dále vyhodnocena, okomentována a jejich výsledky jsou shrnuty v závěru této práce.

Abstract:

What factors determine the ability in detecting obviously false headlines? Nowadays, we often encounter the phenomenon of fake news and misinformation. These phenomena can have a negative impact on society, public debate, and even the results of elections. This bachelor thesis focuses on the issue of fake news and disinformation, especially from the perspective of social networks, which are one of the main means of spreading these phenomena. The main objective is to find out which factors determine the ability to detect fake news. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on the definition of basic terms such as information, fake news or social network. One part also focuses on the issue of belief in fake news, for example cognitive ability or partisan bias. As part of the empirical research, a questionnaire survey was conducted with a random sample of 510 respondents. The data were further analysed and explained and the results are summarised in the conclusion of this thesis.
