Child with behavioral disorders in institutional care - his life prospects and self-esteem

Abstract:

Abstrakt Práce se zabývá dětmi v institucionální péči, jejich přípravou na odchod a možnosti po opuštění péče. Konkrétně mě zajímají děti s poruchou chování. Cílem studie je popsat situaci, ve které se dítě nachází, jaké jsou jeho perspektivy a sebepojetí z pohledu jeho i vychovatelů. Za tímto účelem jsem zvolila kvalitativní výzkum, konkrétně kazuistiku. Sesbírala jsem tři rozhovory s dvanáctiletým chlapcem se specifickou poruchou chování, který je umístěn v dětském domově, dále pak po jednom rozhovoru se čtyřmi vychovateli. Použitím interpretativní fenomenologické analýzy jsem z rozhovorů extrahovala témata, důležitá pro jednotlivé výpovědi, následně pak i témata společná. Na základě analýzy se mi podařilo popsat, jaká je každodenní zkušenost dítěte s poruchou chování v dětském domově, jakým způsobem komunikuje, jak interaguje s ostatními dětmi v domově i ve škole. Zjistila jsem, jaké má dítě možnosti po odchodu z péče, jaké jsou jeho životní šance z pohledu vychovatelů, jaké má on sám plány do dospělosti. Vzhledem k jeho poměrně nízkému věku se nepodařilo zcela naplnit cíl popsat jeho vlastní sebepojetí, mohl by to být dobrý směr pro dlouhodobější výzkum v této oblasti.

Abstract:

Abstract Following study concerns children in institutional care, preparations for their leaving and possibilities afterwards. I particularly focus on children with specific behavioural disorders. Goal of this study is a complexed description of the situation in which this child has found himself, what is his perspective and self-concept, from his point of view and his caretakers’. Therefore, I chose qualitative research, specifically casuistic. Three interviews with twelve-year-old boy diagnosed with specific behavioural disorder were collected, another interviews were taken with four different caretakers. By using interpretative phenomenological analysis, I first extracted important topics of each interviews, then I picked up the common ones. Based on the analysis I was able to describe everyday experience of the child with behavioural disorder, how does he communicate and interact with other children in home and in school. I learned the child’s possibilities after leaving care, what are his chances in life from the caretakers’ points of view, and what is his plan for adulthood. Unfortunately, I was not very successful with describing his self-concept, due to his young age. However, that could be the right direction for longitudinal research in this particular domain.
