Measuring of Polonium in the Environment

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá významem polonia pro životní prostředí a jeho měřením. V teoretické části práce jsou popsány důležité vlastnosti polonia, jeho výroba a použití. Následuje přehled věnovaný možnostem měření polonia. V praktické části práce je provedena řada měření různých radionuklidů přírodního pozadí. Provedená měření vedou k identifikaci jednotlivých izotopů polonia a k určení jejich aktivit. K měření jsou použity relativně dostupné měřicí přístroje, které jsou částečně vlastní konstrukce. Závěrečná část práce je věnována využití získaných poznatků v oblastech měření radioaktivního pozadí a radonu.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the importance of polonium for the environment and with its measurement. In the theoretical part important features of polonium, its production and use are described. A survey of the possibilities of polonium measurement follows. In the practical part of the work a series of measurements of different radionuclides of natural background was carried out. The measurements performed lead to the identification of the isotopes of polonium and to determination of their activities. For the measurements relatively available measuring instruments were used, partly of our own design. The final part is devoted to the use of the acquired knowledge in the field of measurement of radioactive background and radon.
