Abstraction and Spirit. Art philosophical debates in the networks of Joachim Moras 1931-1961 (Europäische Revue, Merkur, Jahresring)

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on the art historical network of the editor Joachim Moras (1912 Zittau - 1961 Munich), which covers the period between 1931 and 1961 and includes the projects European Review, Merkur and Jahresring. The focus is on the relationships between the editor and his colleagues, authors and publishers. An important source of information is the research in the German Literary Archive Marbach am Neckar. Six selected actors (art historians Hans Sedlmayr and Werner Hofmann, anthropologists Adolf Portmann and Arnold Gehlen, and organizers Joachim Moras and Werner Haftmann) are used to demonstrate the different ways in which abstract art was received in postwar Germany, ranging from its acceptance to its rejection.

Práce se zaměřuje na uměleckohistorickou síť redaktora Joachima Morase (1912 Zittau - 1961 Mnichov), která pokrývá dobu mezi roky 1931 a 1961 a zahrnuje projekty Evropská Revue, Merkur a Jahresring. V centru pozornosti stojí vztahy mezi redaktorem a jeho kolegy, autory a nakladatelstvími. Významným zdrojem informací je pramenný výzkum v Německém literárním archivu Marbach am Neckar. Na šesti vybraných aktérech (historicích umění Hansi Sedlmayrovi a Werneru Hofmannovi, antropolozích Adolfu Portmannovi a Arnoldu Gehlenovi a organizátorech Joachimu Morasovi a Werneru Haftmannovi) jsou demonstrovány různé způsoby recepce abstraktního umění v poválečné SRN, které sahaly od jejího přijetí až po její zavržení.
