PepperDict - Application for Accessing Dictionary Data with the Help of a Social Robot

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá implementací aplikace PepperDict vytvořenou s využitím sociálního robota Peppera. Hlavním cílem je implementace a návrh specializovaného přístupu ke slovníkovým datům pomocí robota sloužícího jako komunikační rozhraní. Aplikace PepperDict je vytvořená ve spolupráci s Laboratoří Zpracování přirozeného jazyka na Fakultě Informatiky Masarykovy univerzity. Aplikace využívá platformu DEB vyvíjenou v této laboratoři jako zdroj slovníkových dat. Práce začíná představením teoretických konceptů témat sociálních robotů a vizualizace slovníkových dat. Následuje sekce o robotu Pepprovi a platformě DEB. Dále je popsána analýza a implementace praktické části bakalářské práce. V posledních kapitolách je popsáno a navrženo testování, rozšíření do budoucna a závěr. Výsledkem bakalářské práce je aplikace PepperDict fungující na robotu Pepprovi. Uživatelé se mohou dozvědět informace o slovech skrz dialog s robotem, který odpovídá na otázky a současně ukazuje informace na jeho tabletu.

Abstract:

This thesis implements the PepperDict application created using the social Pepper robot. The main aim is to implement and analyse specialised access to the dictionary data using the robot as a communication interface. The PepperDict application is created in cooperation with the Natural Language Processing Center of the Faculty of Informatics, Masaryk University. The application uses the DEB platform developed in the NLP Center as a source of dictionary data. The thesis begins with presenting theoretical concepts about the topics of social robots and the visualisation of dictionary data. A section about the Pepper robot and DEB platform follows. Moreover, the analysis and implementation of the practical part of the thesis are introduced. In the last chapters, testing, future development, and conclusion are suggested and described. The result of the thesis is the PepperDict application working on the Pepper robot. Users can learn information about words by asking the robot, which answers the questions and simultaneously shows the information on its tablet.
