Motivation of nurses caring for dying patients at home

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce je zjistit, jaká je pracovní motivace zdravotních sester. Téma je zasazeno do kontextu nestátního zdravotnického zařízení, které poskytuje pacientům péči v jejich vlastním sociálním prostředí a je zaměřeno na péči o pacienty, kteří umírají doma. Z tohoto důvodu je v teoretické části podstatné nastínit specifika zdravotnického povolání, domácí zdravotní péče a terminálního stadia života – umírání. Klíčovou teoretickou částí jsou kapitoly o motivaci, na níž je nazíráno z perspektivy obecných teorií a teorií pracovní motivace, ale i z hlediska motivace k prosociálnímu chování. Další část popisuje metodologii výzkumu a objasňuje využití kvalitativní výzkumné strategie a to metodu sběru dat – dotazování a techniku polostrukturovaného rozhovoru. V empirické části jsou interpretována data získaná výzkumem, která vedou k objasnění pracovní motivace zdravotních sester. Na závěr jsou uvedena doporučení pro zkoumanou organizaci.

Abstract:

The aim of my diploma thesis is to discover what the motivation of nurses during their work operations is. The topic is set in the context of a private health care facility that provides care to patients in their own apartments and is focused on the care of patients who are dying at home. For this reason, it is essential that the theoretical part outlines the specifics of medical profession, home healh care and end-stage life – dying. The key theoretical part are chapters including motivation on which it is viewed from the perspective of general theories and theories of work motivation, but also in terms of the motivation for prosocial behavior. Another part describes the research methodology, clarifies the use of qualitative research strategies and methods of data collection – questionnaires and semistructured interviews. The empirical part interprets data obtained from the research that lead to the explanation of nurses‘ motivation. The conclusion includes recommendation for the investigated organization.
