Posttraumatic growth and forgiveness in the context of divorce

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce pojednává o vlivu odpuštění na posttraumatický rozvoj v kontextu rozvodu. Cílem teoretické části je seznámit čtenáře se základním vymezením traumatu, posttraumatického rozvoje, odpuštění a rozvodu. Empirická část si za cíl pokládá prozkoumat možné souvislosti mezi odpuštěním a posttraumatickým rozvojem u rozvedených, ale také zkoumá, jaký má na posttraumatický rozvoj vliv to, že rozvod jedinci pomáhal někdo překonat. Posttraumatický rozvoj byl zjišťován dotazníkem "Posttraumatic Growth Inventory" a na zkoumání odpuštění byl využit dotazník "Heartland Forgiveness Scale". Výzkumu se mohl účastnit kdokoliv, u koho od rozvodu uběhlo maximálně 15 let. Účastnilo se jej 112 osob ve věku od 21 do 57 let. Data byla poté zpracována pomocí kvantitativní analýzy. Z výsledků je patrné, že míra posttraumatického rozvoje a odpuštění spolu pozitivně korelují. Také bylo zjištěno, že vztah mezi posttraumatickým rozvojem a pomocí, která byla jedinci v průběhu rozvodu poskytnuta, není statisticky významný. Totéž platí pro vztah mezi úrovní posttraumatického rozvoje a dobou, která od rozvodu uběhla.

Abstract:

The thesis discusses the impact of forgiveness on posttraumatic growth in the context of divorce. The purpose of the theoretical section is to provide the reader with a general understanding of trauma, posttraumatic growth, forgiveness and divorce. The empirical section aims to explore possible connections between forgiveness and posttraumatic growth between divorcees. It also examines what impact somebody helping the individual overcome divorce has on posttraumatic growth. Posttraumatic growth was determined with the "Posttraumatic Growth Inventory" survey and the "Heartland Forgiveness Scale" was used to explore forgiveness. Respondents were people who got divorced no more than 15 years ago. The research had 112 participants aged 21-57 years. Data was then processed with quantitative analysis. The results indicate that posttraumatic growth positively corelates with forgiveness. It was also discovered that the relation between posttraumatic growth and help offered to the individual getting divorced, is not statistically significant. The same applies to the relation between the level of posttraumatic growth and the amount of time passed since divorce.
