Downstream grain-size evolution in a human-affected stream (the Bystrý Stream)

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá zrnitostní analýzou dnových sedimentů Bystrého potoka v Moravskoslezských Beskydech. Pro získání hodnot o zrnitostním složením dnových sedimentů byla použita metoda dle Wolman (1954). Tímto způsobem byly získány informace o zrnitostním složení dnových sedimentů v celkovém množství 22 transektů v intervalovém měření za splnění podmínky určitých parametrů koryta v místě odběru. Rozsah studované oblasti byl přibližně 3200 metrů délky dolního úseku vodního toku Bystrý. Dolní úsek je značně ovlivněn extensivní antropogenní aktivitou, zejména v posledních desetiletích a také v minulém století. V určitých částech toku byl zaznamenán rozptyl velikosti zrnitosti ve vztahu ke spádovým stupňům následující trend hrubnutí sedimentů po bariéře, avšak nebylo to vždy pravidlem, kdy i ostatní faktory mohly mít určitou roli. Nicméně, část vodního toku protékajícího antropogenním korytem ve městě Baška byla následována variabilitou v zrnitostní analýze, která může být spojená s lidskou aktivitou v tomto úseku. Relativní poproudové zjemňování dnových sedimentů zde také bylo vypozorováno.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is aimed at the grain-size analysis of the bed sediments of the Bystrý stream located in the Beskydy mountains. The macrogranulometric analysis according to Wolman (1954) was used as the main tool for obtaining the required information of the grain size distribution of the bed's sediments. For this research, the grain-size analysis was conducted at 22 locations at regular intervals following certain rules for the collection of data. The entire research took place in the downstream part of the stream of estimated length 3200 meters. This part of the stream has been heavily affected by extensive human activity in recent decades and during the last century as well. For the greater part of the stream there was a slightly noticeable fluctuation in grain-size distribution in relation to step-dams while following the trend in finning of sediments upstream of step-dams and coarsening downstream of step-dams. Albeit it was not always the rule considering other factors that could influence the grain-size distribution. However, for the part of the stream entering the city of Baška there was a noticeable disorder in the grain-size distribution in this part of the stream yielding various results in relative sizes of sediments which could be directly linked to intensive human activities in this part of the stream and the recent removal of larger sediments in this part as well. The relative finning of the sediments across the stream's entire longitudinal profile was also observed there.
