Formy a funkce angličtiny v Singapuru

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce je popis a interpretace rolí varianty anglického jazyka v Singapuru. K propojení souvislostí se část práce věnuje historickému vývoji Singapuru od dob raných až do nabytí nezávislosti. Hlavní část je pak tvořena analýzou vybraných jevů a odlišností mezi angličtinou v Singapuru, která je dále členěna na standardní a hovorovou, a standardní britskou variantou. Kromě analýzy na úrovni jazyka jako takového se práce zaměřuje také na analýzu užití singapurské angličtiny v různých oblastech společnosti, zejména pak ve vzdělání, k čemuž se vážou také určité výzvy.

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis is the description and interpretation of the roles of the English language variety in Singapore. The work focuses on the historical development of Singapore from the early years to the declaration of independence to provide the contextual links. The main part is composed by the analysis of chosen phenomena and differences between English in Singapore, further divided to standard and colloquial varieties, and Standard British English. Besides the analysis of the language the work also analyses the use of Singapore English in various social domains, especially then the domain of education where certain challenges have to be faced.
