Liberal Democrats and their position in the British party system

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá vývojem třetí britské strany Liberálních demokratů, vytvořených sloučením Liberální strany a Sociálně demokratické strany na konci 80. let minulého století. Práce je zaměřena na vystupování strany v jednotlivých volbách, její roli na úrovni lokální politiky, pozici v britském stranickém systému a vztahy s hlavními dvěmi britskými stranami. Zvláštní pozornost je věnována spolupráci s labouristy, kulminující v období voleb v roce 1997.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the development of the third British political party, Liberal Democrats, created by merger of the traditional Liberal Party and Social Democratic Party in the late 80s of the last century. It focuses on a performance of the party in general elections, it´s role on local goverment level, position in the British party system and relations with the two major political parties. It also attempts to shed the light on alleged cooperation between Liberal Democrats and Labour Party in 1990s, often called Lib-labbery.
