Vinyl on the Rise: The Role of Brick-and-Mortar Record Stores

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá vzestupem popularity vinylových desek a přístupem kamenných prodejen hudebních nosičů k tomuto trendu. Teoretická část se věnuje historii a vývoji hudebních nosičů, provozu kamenných prodejen včetně jejich role v pořádání kulturních událostí a účasti na celosvětové akci Record Store Day, základům retail marketingu a spotřebitelského chování. V praktické části je využit kombinovaný přístup, který integruje kvantitativní data z dotazníkového šetření mezi spotřebiteli vinylových desek a kvalitativní data z hloubkových rozhovorů s majiteli kamenných prodejen. Analýza těchto dat vedla k formulaci souboru doporučení, která mohou prodejny implementovat ke zvýšení své konkurenceschopnosti a podpoře zájmu o fyzické nákupy v těchto specializovaných obchodech.

Abstract:

This thesis examines the rising popularity of vinyl records and the approach of brick-and-mortar record stores to this trend. The theoretical part addresses the history and development of music formats, the operation of brick-and-mortar stores including their role in organizing cultural events and participation in the global event Record Store Day, the basics of retail marketing, and consumer behaviour. The practical part employs a combined approach, integrating quantitative data from a survey among vinyl record consumers and qualitative data from in-depth interviews with brick-and-mortar store owners. The analysis of these data led to the formulation of a set of recommendations that stores can implement to increase their competitiveness and support interest in physical purchases in these specialized shops.
