Integration of Immigrants in the Czech Labour Market Environment From the Perspective of Long-term Settled Immigrants

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá tématem integrace dlouhodoběji usazených imigrantů v prostředí českého trhu práce. Na základě kvalitativních face-to-face rozhovorů bylo zjišťováno, jaké podmínky komunikační partneři považovali za stěžejní pro svůj vstup na český trh práce, jak se s těmito podmínkami vyrovnávali, jak na ně reagovali, jak probíhal proces integrace v průběhu času a jaký byl výsledek tohoto procesu. Z pohledu komunikačních partnerů se jako nejdůležitější schopnosti v souvislosti s pohybem na českém trhu práce jevily: znalost českého jazyka, a znalost kulturního a sociálního prostředí. Významné strategie komunikačních partnerů byly založeny také na sociálních kontaktech s českými občany. Tyto kontakty komunikačním partnerů často např. pomohly k získání lepšího zaměstnání. Na druhou stranu, i po dlouhé době strávené v České republice, komunikační partneři stále vykonávali práce charakterizované nízkým sociálním statusem, jež nekladly žádné požadavky na kvalifikaci či vzdělání. Komunikační partneři hovořili také o specifických překážkách integrace jako výkon nelegální práce, zapojení se do zprostředkovatelských sítí či chování většinové společnosti. Spíše tedy než o integraci by se dalo v souvislosti s postavením komunikačních partnerů na českém trhu práce hovořit o jejich marginalizaci, kdy socio-ekonomické integraci v prostředí trhu práce předcházela kulturní a sociální integrace.

Abstract:

Work deals with the issue of integration of immigrants settled in the Czech Republic during longer time period into the labour's market environment. A qualitative study based on the face-to-face interviews was designed in order to find out which conditions the respondents marked to be the most important for their entry into the labour's market environment, how they “replied” to these conditions, how the process of integration went on and what was the result. In the respondent's point of view the most important abilities were: knowledge of the Czech language and knowledge of the cultural and social environment. What also helped him were social contacts, especially with Czech citizens. These contacts often helped him to gain a betted job. On the other hand, in spite of the long period of time spent in the Czech Republic respondents were still employed in the lower status jobs which did no require any qualification or education. Respondents also spoke about specific obstacles such as illegal work, contact with work mediators or contact with the Czech majority. To sum up, rather than integration the situation of the respondents on the labour market could be described as marginalisation, when the cultural and social integration preceded the socio-economic integration of immigrants.
