Abstract:

The aim of my B.A. thesis „The Meaning of Abstract Art“ is to analyse the concept of meaning in the context of abstract art and to illustrate what significance abstract art has for the viewer, as well as to make the distinction between the meaning in abstract art and the meaning of abstract art. It seeks to analyse and identify the way we can approach abstract art to develop our critical faculties and appreciation of images that defy identification or categorisation within our known reality. The basis is formed by critics and artists writings about art, especially Rothko‘s as he is the most influential artist in this field.
