Inner Politics Conflicts on the Solomon Islands and Their Possible Impact on the State Integrity

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is concerned with Solomon Islands and two inner politics conflicts, that took place in this region during the past two decades. First chapter defines the term conflict, its typology and stages, and further it analyses the terms ethnic, ethnic group, ethnic conflict and the state integrity. The text of the chapter two describes the history of creation of the Solomon Islands as the independent state, its natural environment, political system, economy, people and society, and the problems that hold back the development of this state. Main part of the thesis containing chapter three and four analyses in detail the inner politics conflicts, their historical origins, causes, courses, consequences and it also describes the situation in the state after these conflicts. Involved persons, institutes and states are shortly described in the sections of conflicts courses. The conclusion of the thesis gives definition of these conflicts based on typology presented in chapter one and also presents these conflict according to conflict databases, that are presented in chapter one too. Based on analysed data it answers the research question, if the causes of these conflicts were motivated ethnically or rather economically and politically and if they could have a impact on the state integrity.

Abstract:

Táto bakalárska práca sa zaoberá Šalamúnovými ostrovmi a dvom vnútropolitickým konfliktom, ku ktorým v tomto regióne došlo v priebehu posledných dvoch dekád. Prvá kapitola rozoberá pojem konflikt, jeho typológiu a fázy, a ďalej sa venuje analýze pojmov etnikum, etnická skupina, etnický konflikt a štátna integrita. V druhej kapitole je poukázané na históriu vzniku Šalamúnových ostrovov ako samostatného štátu, na jeho prírodné prostredie, politický systém, ekonomiku, ľudí a spoločnosť a na problémy, ktoré brzdia jeho rozvoj. Hlavná časť práce obsahujúca kapitoly 3 a 4 detailne analyzuje dané vnútropolitické konflikty, ich historické súvislosti, príčiny, priebehy a dôsledky, a taktiež situáciu v štáte po týchto konfliktoch. Aktérom a regionálnemu kontextu konfliktov sa práca venuje stručne v rámci priebehov konfliktov. Záver práce definuje konflikty na základe uvedenej typológie a taktiež predstavuje ich zaradenie v rámci dostupných databáz konfliktov. Na základe analyzovaných dát odpovedá na výskumnú otázku, či boli tieto príčiny týchto konfliktov motivované etnicky, alebo skôr sociálne a politicky, a či mohli mať dopad na integritu štátu.
