Mathematicians of the Islamic world and their contribution in selected areas of mathematics

Abstract:

Práce je zaměřena na čtyři významné matematiky z islámského světa, zabývajícími se různými oblastmi matematiky od vzniku pozičních a nepozičních soustav až po složitější řešení rovnic. Nejprve a také ve větší části této práce se zaměřuji na al-Chwarízmího a jeho aritmetiku, algebru a geometrii, poté na Abú?l Wafu a výpočty se zlomky, dále na Omara Chajjáma a Džemída al-Kášího a jejich výpočty v oblasti kubických rovnic. Cílem této práce je také srovnat některé jejich výpočty se současnými postupy, které se používají v matematice na středních školách a ukázat jejich výhody a nevýhody.

Abstract:

Thesis is aimed at four of the most significant mathematicians of the Islamic world, who dealt with the different areas of mathematics from the inception of the positional and non-positional systems to complicated solving of equations. First and also in great part of this work is aimed at al-Khwarizmi and his aritmetics, algebra and geometry, then at Abul al-Wafa and his calculations in fractions, after that at Omar Khayyam and al-Kashi and their calculations in the area of cubic equations. The aim of my work is also comparison with current methods, which are used in mathematics at the secondary schools and to show its advantages and disadvantages.
