Selftracking as means of self-knowledge and self-reflection

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá selftrackingem, tedy sběrem dat o sobě, jako formou informačního chování, u kterého je informační potřeba uspokojována ne vyhledáváním informací, nýbrž jejich soustavným a systematickým shromažďová-ním. Po uvedení do tématu a vymezení oblastí zájmu práce popisuje historii i současnost selftrackingu, motivaci uživatelů k těmto aktivitám a možnosti jeho využití pro osobní rozvoj. V praktické části se práce věnuje popisu sběru a následné analýzy vlastních dat. Účelem je demonstrace konkrétních metod, které se dají použít pro získání poznatků o sobě.

Abstract:

This Master thesis focuses on the topic of selftracking – gathering data about own person, as a specific type of information behavior, which satisfies person’s needs not by information retrieval, but by continuos and systematic tracking. After introduction defining the field of this topic, thesis provides insights to history and present state of selftracking, user's motivation to this kind of activity and possibilities of using it for own personal development. In practical part thesis focuses on description of data gathering process and its analysis to illustrate methods which can be used to get knowledge from the data.
