Ahmad ibn Taymiyyah and Political Islam in 2nd half of 20th century

Abstract:

This paper is dedicated to analysis and destription of ideological influence of medieval islamic scholar Ahmad Ibn Taymyyiah on the thoughts of political islam in the period of the 2nd half of 20th century. The main focus is turned to concepts of jihaad, applying sharia law and geo-political ideas in Islam. Attention is also paid to the main characteristics of the ideal muslim ruler. Paper also brings in the comparison of two historical periods, age of Ibn Taymiiyah and Farag in order to decide if it is correct to consider Farags application of Taymiiyah teachings on modern Egypt vulgarized or purpose- built. In conclusion, paper describes ideological influence of Ibn Taymiiyah on Abd Al-Wahhab and Saudi Arabia, Mawdudi and Qutb, Abd As-Salam Farag and the net of Al-Qaeda.

Abstract:

Práca sa venuje analýze a popisu myšlienkového vplyvu stredovekého islamského učenca, komentátora a právnika Ibn Tajmíju na politický islam neskoršieho 20. storočia. Zameriava sa hlavne na koncept džihádu, otázku aplykácie islamského práva a geopolitické predstavy politického islamu. Práca taktiež prináša stručné porovnanie dejinných období života Ibn Tajmíju a egyptského islamistu Abdasaláma Faraga.
