Alternative power sources in road and rail transport

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou alternativních zdrojů pohonů v silniční a železniční dopravě. Hlavním důvodem výběru tohoto tématu je především jeho aktuálnost, neboť dochází ke stále většímu přemisťování osob i nákladů. Zároveň se domnívám, že toto téma bude vždy stát v popředí zájmu, jak už z pohledu rafinérských společností či distributorů, tak i z pohledu konečných uživatelů. V posledních letech procházejí zejména alternativní zdroje velkým a rychlým rozvojem, protože si společnost uvědomuje dopady dlouhodobého a nadměrného užívání fosilních paliv, ať už se jedná o negativní dopady na životní prostředí nebo o skutečnost, že zásoby nerostných surovin nejsou nekonečné. Bakalářská práce je rozdělena na dvě části, část teoreticko-metodologickou a část aplikační. V úvodu teoretické části je přehledným způsobem popsán princip činnosti spalovacího motoru (zážehového i vznětového) a elektromotoru. Hlavní náplní teoretické části je detailní zpracování aktuálně dostupných informací o jednotlivých druzích paliv využívaných v silniční a železniční dopravě. V aplikační části jsou posuzována vybraná paliva dle kritérií definovaných v cíli této práce tj. z hlediska ekonomického, ekologického a z hlediska energetické účinnosti. Na základě zjištěných informací byla provedena multikriteriální analýza, díky níž byla stanovena optimální varianta paliva pro silniční a železniční dopravu. Ze získaných výsledků upřednostňuji pro silniční osobní dopravu v současné době spalování CNG. Důvodem je zejména celkové zhodnocení škodlivin, příznivá spotřeba a také pořizovací náklady, které dle mého názoru budou postupem času klesat. Výhledově v časovém horizontu padesáti let spatřuji největší perspektivu v použití vodíku. Jeho jednoznačnou devízu spatřuji v nulovém obsahu vypouštěných škodlivin do ovzduší při spalování. U silniční nákladní dopravy je to s jednoznačným stanoviskem poněkud komplikovanější. V současnosti zůstává z mého pohledu nejrozumnější volbou stále motorová nafta. Ačkoliv existuje celá řada negativ, které s sebou spalování nafty přináší, stále vychází jako ekonomicky výhodná varianta. Pro blízkou budoucnost bych jako lídra pohonu v silniční nákladní dopravě viděl spalování CNG. Pro delší časový horizont opět nesmíme opomenout vodík z důvodu nulových exhalací. V železniční dopravě bych upřednostnil elektrický pohon, spolu s pohonem na CNG. Domnívám se, že tyto dva druhy pohonů budou velmi silně zastoupeny v následujících 20 letech. Nastupujícími kandidáty budou opět vodík nebo pohyb na magnetickém polštáři.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with alternative sourses of fuels in road and rail transport. I chose this theme because it is actual, the transport of persons and freight is increasing. I think that these theme will always be at the forefront, both from the point of view of refining companies or distributors and from the point of view of end users. The alternative sources are undergoing large and rapid development in recent years. Our company is realizing the impact of longterm and excessive usage of fossil fuels nowadays. Especially it means the negative impact on environment and the fact, that the resources of minerals are not infinite. This bachelor thesis is divided into two parts: 1) the theoretical-methodological part; 2) the application part. In the introduction of the theoretical part the principe of the combustion engine (gasoline and diesel) and an electric motor is described. The theoretical part mainly deals with the detail types of fuels used in road and rail transport. In the aplication part the selected fuels are evaluated from the point of view of economical, ecological and energetical efficiency. Based on learnt information the multicriterial analysis was implemented and the optimal variation of fuel for road and rail transport was defined. From the results obtained I prefer CNG combustion for the road traffic. The main reason is especially overall evaluation of pollutants, positive consumption and initial costs, which in my perspective will decrease in time. In the perspective of 50 years I see the greatest potential in the usage of hydrogen. I see its definite benefit in zero content of harmful substances emitted into the air during combustion. Concerning the road freight traffic it is more complicated with the definite standpoint. From my perspective the diesel fuel remains the best of the current options. Although there are many negatives which the diesel fuel combustion brings, it remains the best economical variant. For the near future I would see the CNG combustion as the leader of propulsion in road freight traffic. In long term period we can not ommit hydrogen due to its zero emission. In the rail traffic I would prefer electrical propulsion combined with the CNG. I thing this two types of propulsion will have very significant role in the following 20 years. Emerging candidates will be hydrogen or magnetic levitation.
