Abstract:

Tématem této bakalářské práce jsou vypravěčské strategie, s jejichž pomocí vnáší hlavní hrdina románu Lolita do vyprávění značnou míru nejasnosti a dvojznačnosti. Zaměřuje se na roli Humbertovi intelektuální nadřazenosti, na jeho znalosti v oblasti cizích jazyků, schopnosti ve zvýrazňování (foregrounding) jazykových prostředků na úkor obsahu a na moc, kterou disponuje jakožto vypravěč. Tento text se snaží naznačit, proč existuje tak propastný rozdíl v názorech na děj Nabokovovy knihy nejen mezi běžnými čtenáři, ale dokonce i mezi odborníky. Záměrem však rozhodně není vynesení morálního soudu nad kteroukoliv postavou knihy, jelikož postavy knih jsou součástí smyšleného světa fikce, a tudíž je nelze posuzovat na základě kritérií světa reálného.

Abstract:

This thesis describes some of the narratorial strategies that enable the protagonist of Lolita to introduce a substantial portion of uncertainty and ambiguity into the narrative. It examines the role of Humbert Humbert’s intellectual superiority, his proficiency in foreign languages, his capacities in foregrounding form over the content, the powers he has at his disposal thanks to his position of a narrator and interpreter, and some others. It tries to explain how is it possible that there are so vastly different opinions concerning the plot of the novel not only among the usual readers but also among the academics. What is not the purpose of this thesis is to moralize, or judge the characters of the novel, as they are fictional, unreal, and thus beyond moral judgment.
