Experiences of aging and old age with health handicap

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je orientována na porozumění problematice v oblasti stárnutí a stáří s handicapem, resp. na zkušenosti, které senioři získali ve svém životě s fyzickým znevýhodněním. Pozornost je tedy věnována životnímu příběhu účastníků výzkumu, s ohledem na jedinečnost každého člověka. Teoretická část je věnována objasnění pojmů souvisejících se stářím a handicapem s ohledem na sociální politiku, společnost, rodinu a autonomii. V empirické části práce jsou uvedeny metodologické postupy, vycházející z kvalitativního přístupu, analýza dat je prováděna metodou zakotvené teorie Strausse a Corbinové. Předmětem výzkumného tématu jsou interpretace, které vycházejí z životních příběhů znevýhodněných osob v seniorském věku, v kontextu jejich každodenního života. Cílem je porozumět situaci seniorů, vcítit se do jejich životů a na základě toho interpretovat získané poznatky do podoby, která obohatí dočasnou odbornou literaturu, ale také spustí podněty k dalšímu vědeckému bádání v této oblasti.

Abstract:

This dissertation addresses the understanding of the problematic of aging and aging with a handicap, or rather the experiences that seniors obtained during their life with a physical disability. The work is dedicated to the life story of the participants of this study, taking into account their individuality. The theoretical part focuses on explaining terms related to aging and handicap with regard to social politics, society, family, and autonomy. The empiric part of this work includes methodological procedures arising from a qualitative approach; the analysis of data is done with the well-known theory of Strauss and Corbin. The objective of the experimental topic is the interpretation that arises from the life of handicapped people in an advanced age in the context of their daily life. The goal is to understand the situation of the elderly, to able to relate to their life, and based on that, to be able to interpret the obtained knowledge, so that it can enrich current specialized literature, but also induce new research in this area.
