Anterior Cruciate Ligament lesions of the professional athlete: from the trauma to the return to sport.

Abstract:

The rupture of Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) is probably the most traumatic event that can affect the knee joint and, together with the rupture of Achilles Tendon, is surely the one that contemplates the longest healing and return times. Today, orthopaedic surgery performed in this articulation, thanks to innovative intervention techniques, certainly less invasive than in the past , can, in the vast majority of cases , bring the articulation to a condition that we could call "return to normality", with a complete recovery of the activity by the injured athlete. Research in this field has taken giant steps by putting the surgeon-orthopaedic in the best possible conditions to achieve more accurate and reliable results with more and more advanced techniques and means. The biomechanical study of materials used (synthetic or taken from corps rather than autologous), combined with clinical studies, has brought to a significant evolution of this type of operation, allowing a much faster start of the rehabilitation phase, with a greater advantage, in order of time, regarding agonistic and non-agonistic activity resumption.

Abstract:

La rottura del legamento crociato anteriore (LCA) ? forse l'evento pi? traumatico che possa colpire l'articolazione del ginocchio ed insieme alla rottura del Tendine d'Achille ? sicuramente quello che detiene i tempi di guarigione e di ritorno in campo pi? lunghi. Oggi, la chirurgia ortopedica condotta in questa articolazione, grazie a innovative tecniche d'intervento, sicuramente meno invasive rispetto al passato1 riesce a riportare nella stragrande maggioranza dei casi2 l'articolazione ad una condizione che potremmo definire di "ritorno alla normalit?" e con una ripresa dell'attivit? completa da parte dell'atleta colpito da infortunio.
