Reflection of body image in drawing the human figure of adolescent girls

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem výzkumu byl pokus o nalezení možných souvislostí mezi kresbou lidské postavy a tělovým schématem. Výzkumný soubor se sestával ze 73 adolescentních dívek. V rámci výzkumu byly detekovány dívky (21 osob) se zkresleným tělových schématem a dále u nich byla zjištěna nízká tělesná váha. K této výzkumné skupině byla vytvořena skupina komparativní (21 osob). Ve výzkumu byly využity tři metody – Figure Drawing Test (FDT), Test siluet postav a dotazník vlastní konstrukce. K vyhodnocování FDT bylo užito kvalitativního a kvantitativního přístupu. Bylo objeveno 8 znaků, v jejichž četnosti výskytu se obě skupiny významně lišily, jmenovitě: „postava oděná do pánského oblečení“, „detailní obličej“, „paže v jiných polohách než podél těla“, „vynechání ňader“, „postava umístěná do středu listu papíru“, „postava bez ženských křivek“, „lomené linie“ a „silné čáry“. Většina dospívajících dívek je se svou postavou nespokojená a přála by si být štíhlejší. S partiemi těla, s nimiž je většina děvčat nespokojená, jsou břicho, boky, hýždě a stehna.

Abstract:

The aim of this study was to make an attempt to find out possible relationship between Figure Drawing Test (FDT) and body image. The data was obtained from 73 adolescent females. In this research, body image disturbance was detected in 21 female respondents and these were also diagnosed with low body weight. Comparative group (21 volunteers) was created in order to contrast the original research group. Three methods were used – Figure Drawing Test, Figure Rating Scale and a questionnaire of our own construction. Qualitative and quantitative approach was used to evaluate FDT. Eight signs were detected during the research. They differed in the number of occurrences in both groups, namely: „figure dressed in male clothing”, „detailed face”, „arms not in “along body” position”, „absent breasts”, „paper centered figure”, „absence of feminine curves”, „refracted lines” and „bold lines”. Most adolescent females are dissatisfied with their bodies and they wish to lose weight. They are not satisfied particularly with these parts of their bodies: abdomen area, hips, buttocks and thighs.
