Comparison of demographic and socioeconomic aspects of population ageing in the Czech Republic and Finland

Abstract:

Diplomová práce zkoumá stárnutí populace v rámci mezinárodního srovnání – ukazatele stárnutí populace České republiky a Finska (komparace demografických a socioekonomických aspektů). Literární rešerše poskytuje teoretický rámec pro praktickou část práce, ve které jsou demografické a socioekonomické aspekty stárnutí analyzovány. K dosažení cíle jsou využita sekundární data Českého statistického úřadu (ČSÚ), Finského statistického úřadu (StatFin) a Statistického úřadu Evropské unie (EUROSTAT), která jsou zkoumána metodou analýzy časových řad, metodou komparace a metodou regresní analýzy. Pro analýzu sekundárních dat je vymezeno období časové řady 2002–2022 a zkoumány jsou indikátory porodnosti, úmrtnosti, sňatečnosti, rozvodovosti, migrace, věkové struktury, vzdělanostní struktury a ekonomické struktury spolu s nezaměstnaností. Výsledkem práce je zjištění, že v obou sledovaných zemích přibývá seniorů, s čímž souvisí také růst indexu stáří. Úroveň úhrnné plodnosti ani v jedné ze zemí nedosahuje potřebné hranice pro budoucí zachování populace a celkový přírůstek obyvatelstva je tak tvořen především migrací. Stárnutí populace v České republice i Finsku je nesporným trendem, který bude i přes jisté výkyvy zapříčiněné pandemií Covid-19 nebo migrační vlnou uprchlíků z Ukrajiny s největší pravděpodobností přetrvávat i nadále.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis examines the aging of the population in the framework of an international comparison – indicators of the aging of the population of the Czech Republic and Finland (comparison of demographic and socioeconomic aspects). The literature review provides a theoretical framework for the practical part of the work, in which the demographic and socioeconomic aspects of ageing are analysed. To achieve the goal, secondary data from the Czech Statistical Office (CSO), Statistics Finland (StatFin), and the European Statistical Office (EUROSTAT) are used, which are analysed using the method of time series analysis, the method of comparison and the method of regression analysis. For the analysis of secondary data, the period of the time series 2002–2022 is defined and the indicators of births, deaths, marriages, divorces, migration, age structure, educational structure, and economic structure together with unemployment are examined. The result of the work is the finding that there is an increase in seniors in both monitored countries, which is also related to the growth of the age index. The level of total fertility in none of the monitored countries reaches the necessary limits for the future preservation of the population, and the total increase in the population is thus made up mainly of migration. The ageing of the population in both the Czech Republic and Finland is an indisputable trend that will most likely persist in the future, despite certain fluctuations caused by the Covid-19 pandemic or the migration wave of refugees from Ukraine.
