Abstract:

Diplomová práce Women in the Post World War II Britain in Margaret Drabble’s novel The Radiant Way (Zářivá cesta) se zabývá otázkami ženské emancipace probíhající v Británii v osmdesátých letech minulého století. Zkoumá především věrohodnost dobových záznamů zachycených autorkou v románu a porovnává je s dobovými záznamy zpracovanými odborníky v příslušné oblasti. Zaznamenává shody a rozdíly mezi autentickými a autobiografickými událostmi na bázi románu. Diplomová práce se především soustřeďuje na takové problémy, jako je feminismu, vzdělání, manželství, rozvod, rodinný život, polické a sociálními reformy v Británii pod vedením Margaret Thatcher a sleduje jejich dopad na osudy hrdinek v románu Zářivá cesta a Přirozená zvědavost. V první části diplomové práce se rozebírají typické tvůrčí a vypravěčské rysy Margaret Drabble. Druhá část se zabývá shodami mezi životními osudy autorky a jejími hlavními hrdinkami v románu. Třetí část si vytyčila jako hlavní téma vyobrazení úskalí rodinného života, jak z pohledu utlačované, tak i emancipované ženy. Čtvrtá část zkoumá historii feminismu a jeho dopad na osudy moderní ženy. Pátá část se zabývá otázkami nerovnoprávnosti žen ve vzdělání a poslední část zpracovává politické, ekonomické a sociální rozpory v zemi v období Thatcherismu.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis Women in the Post World War II Britain in Margaret Drabble’s novel The Radiant Way deals with the questions of women emancipation proceeding in Britain during the eighties of the previous century. It mainly focuses on the authenticity of records portrayed in the novel by the author and compares them with the records written down by the experts in the particular fields. The thesis follows the similarities and differences between the authentic and autobiographical events on the basis of the novel. The diploma thesis is mainly focused on the issues, such as feminism, education, marriage, divorce, family life, the political and social reforms in Britain under the leadership of Margaret Thatcher, and examines their impact on the destiny of the main heroines of The Radiant Way and A Natural Curiosity. Margaret Drabble’s typical literary and stylistic features are discussed in the first part of the diploma thesis. The second part deals with the similarities between the author’s autobiographical experiences and her main heroines in the novel. The third part sets as its main goal the description of the difficulties connected with the married life, and so as from the point of a battered woman, so from the point of an emancipated one. The fourth part explores the history of feminism and its impact on the fortune of a modern woman. The fifth part deals with the questions of women inequality in the field of education and the last part treats the political, economical and social conflicts in the country during the Thatcherite era.
